Chico State’s baseball team beat Cal State Stanislaus 5-4 in an eleven-inning thriller.

Game 1

The Wildcats jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to runs by two of their outfielders, junior Kyle Westhuis and senior Danny Miller.

All momentum seemed to be with the ‘Cats, but the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors answered back with four runs in the 5th inning.

This was the first lead the Warriors were able to enjoy against the Wildcats in the 4-game series this weekend.

The lead was short lived.

The following inning the Wildcats respond with a pair of runs to tie the game.

Staunch defense by each team forced the game into extra innings.

A break through came in the top of the 11th inning when a ‘passed ball’ allowed senior outfielder Connor Huesers to run in from third.

Huesers’ run proved enough for the Wildcats to get the win. The final score was 5-4.

Game 2

In the second game of Saturday’s double-header, Chico State was able to come away with a 5-3 win.

The Warriors got off to a 0-1 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning.

But junior Andrew Carrillo hit a single that allowed Cody Slader to tie the game at one run a piece.

The ‘Cats got on a roll and scored 4 more times to take a commanding 5-1 lead.

The Warriors began to mount a comeback, but it was too little to late. They succeeded in scoring two runs making it a 5-3 game, but the game was called after the 7th inning.

Chico State was able to close the game out giving them back-to-back wins.

The victory gave Chico State a 5-2 record on the year.
