A distinct type of social outcast

Because this is a subject long debated, I thought I’d give my views of the differences between a nerd, geek, dork and dweeb. This is a matter of serious importance as it is critical to properly classify and segregate people into further categories and subcategories.

Geek: someone almost specialized and/or obsessed in a specific area or subject that is typically very trendy. Think Star Wars, Magic or Role Playing Games. Someone with intense knowledge on a particular subject. Also associated with computers and technology.

Nerd: usually more intelligent in general and a bit socially awkward. Typically someone more interested in pursuits of the mind than their outward appearances. Subjects of interest are more academic, but obviously they also can enjoy things that geeks enjoy, just not nearly as obsessed or focused.

Dork: someone with odd interests and usually very visibly awkward from their outward appearance and attitude. Very quirky. Typically loners.

Dweeb: physically wimpish. Intelligent and very awkward. Can be a bit snobby and overly proud.

From my experience, these are the distinctions and connotations associated with these four types.

But whichever type one associates themselves with, be proud.

That’s part of what makes being a geek or a nerd or a dork or a dweeb great. It’s what connects all types of segregating classifications: liking and doing whatever brings happiness and not apologizing for it.
