South campus power restored after flood

Faculty and staff in the south campus returned to work today following a basement flood that prompted university maintenance workers to cut off all power in that area Monday afternoon.

The flood occurred in the basement of Langdon Hall, where a transformer was housed and connected to the south campus electrical line, said Joe Wills, director of Public Affairs.

Employees working in buildings like Kendall Hall and the Bell Memorial Union were asked to go home early Monday on paid administrative leave, according to a campus wide email.

Power was restored to the south campus sometime after 5:30 p.m., Wills said. Langdon Hall will still be inaccessible and without power for an undetermined amount of time.

Tuesday, approximately 15 Langdon Hall faculty and staff were relocated to various buildings on campus, Wills said. A property restoration firm, Belfor, have begun drying out the flooded areas.

A report of confirmed flood damages has not been released, Wills said. The cost and timeline of any repairs have not been confirmed. The cause is still undetermined.
