Man arrested for stealing car and leading police on a vehicle pursuit

Man arrested for stealing car and leading police on a vehicle pursuit

Butte County Sheriff deputies were led on a vehicle pursuit from the area of E. Lassen Ave. to Cohasset Road on Monday.

According to a press release from the Chico Police Department, the incident occurred at about 2:35 p.m. Deputies pursued a black Honda sedan that had been reported stolen and was driving recklessly, but backed off and terminated the pursuit in the interest of public safety due to the amount of vehicle traffic on the roadway.

Chico Police Officers searched the area for a suspect and were flagged down by citizens, who informed them that the sedan had been involved in a vehicle collision at the intersection of Mangrove Ave. and E. 5th Ave.

The sedan had broadsided another vehicle at the intersection, injuring the driver of the other vehicle. The suspect managed to flee the scene of the crash, threatening witnesses along the way. The injured driver was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Officers managed to capture the suspect after he tried to run into a nearby alley and was captured by a citizen who witnessed the pursuit.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Chase Forcier, who was on Post Release Custody Supervision and already had three outstanding felony warrants for prior convictions of felony vehicle theft.

Forcier was arrested and booked into Butte County Jail for the outstanding warrants, in addition to being charged with felony vehicle pursuit, felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony hit-and-run, and felony driving under the influence.
