Jacob Meders, a member of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe of Chico Rancheria, visited Chico State as a guest curator of a three-day talk and workshop session. Meders is currently exhibiting “Mǝǝmento: Before” at the Turner Print Museum and his new work, “Aksum Belle: Afterwards” at the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery.

Meders describes his exhibitions as a “call and response,” according to a press release, given the artwork is presented in adjacent galleries.

Meders conducted a printmaking workshop during his visit for those interested. At the workshop, Meders showcased various printmaking techniques, and encouraged the class to try it out themselves. Meders highly encourages taking a printmaking class before investing in the equipment.

“Take a few print classes, start to find out imagery and concepts you’re interested in and how you can apply it to the process,” Meders said.

Both “Mǝǝmento: Before” and “Aksum Belle: Afterwards” will continue to be shown at the Jacki Headley University Art Gallery and Janet Turner Print Museum until Feb. 23. For more on these exhibitions visit www.csuchico.edu/art/spaces/galleries/
