The Chico State women’s basketball team held off Cal State Monterey Bay with a big road victory 64-56.

On the road, the Wildcats stayed resilient and took sole possession of second place in the CCAA.

In the first half, it was a low scoring affair with both teams trading buckets but the ‘Cats held a 28-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Otters took a short lead for a moment until senior guard Courtney Hamilton hit a 3-pointer to put the Wildcats up 39-38. The ‘Cats clamped down on the Otters defensively to go on a 13-point run to pull away 52-39. In the final moments, the Wildcats sunk their free throws to get the victory 64-56.

Leading the Cat attack was senior forward McKenzie Dalthrop with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Annie Ward connected on three 3-pointers hauling in 13 points.

The Wildcats are now 17-6 on the season and 13-6 in conference play and are now in second place. The ‘Cats next game is Saturday at Cal State East Bay at 5:30 p.m.
