Wildcats overpower Cal State San Bernardino

With a four-game losing streak under their belt, the Chico State baseball team traveled to Nettleton Stadium to face Cal State San Bernardino.

The ‘Cats broke their losing streak winning 8-0.

In the first inning, the Coyotes were struck out by graduate pitcher Luke Barker.

The Wildcats came in the bottom of the inning with junior infielder Andrew Carrillo batting first. Carrillo was hit by the pitcher and was walked to first and later scored giving the team, 1-0.

Barker pitched the first eight innings.

Second inning came and the Coyotes were only able to hit once. While Chico State went for a run, scoring twice off of junior center fielder Jeff Ortega and senior shortstop Cody Slader.

The ‘Cats entered the third inning with senior first baseman Tyler Madrid hitting a homered to right field. Followed by senior outfielder Danny Miller and senior outfielder Conner Huesers advancing to third base and scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Huesers returned for another run hitting a single to left and scoring, 7-0.

The Wildcats scored their last point of the game in the seventh inning. Huesers hit a double but was out on third–Madrid was able to score giving the ‘Cats an eight-point lead over the Coyotes.

In the ninth inning, junior right hand pitcher Trogen Soderlund replaced Barker.
