The Chico State softball team ended its season Sunday spliting the doubleheader at Cal State East Bay 6-2 and 11-6.
Sophomore first basemen Desiree’ Gonzalez slugged her 11th homer of the season in the first game, tying the Chico State record for most home runs in a season. Junior Emily McEnaney went deep in the next at bat to put the Wildcats on top 2-0 in the first inning.
In her last start of her collegiate career, senior Alex Molina pitched a gem, giving up four hits and two runs, while striking out five to even her record at 12-12 for the season.
Senior second baseman Kayla Barber had three hits on the day with a pair of RBIs in the final games of her career.
In the second game, the Wildcats struck first with a run in the first and second innings off of hits by McEnaney and Ridgway to lead 2-0. The Pioneers went ahead 3-2 in the third with a three-run home run by Chelsie Kakela.
With the score 3-6 favoring Cal State East Bay in the top of the fifth, the Wildcats scored one run off of an error and scored two more off of a Ridgway double to tie the score at six apiece. Cal State East Bay would pull ahead scoring five more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to pick up the win 11-6 and series 3-1.
Chico State ends the regular season 24-26 overall and 17-19 in conference play to finish in 6th place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association, out of the top four playoff spots.
