Men’s golf finishes 3rd of 3 teams

The fourth-ranked Chico State men’s golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule Monday in Fairfax. Playing in the Dominican Tri-Match against fifth-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay and Dominican University at the Meadow Club, the Wildcats finished third out of three schools playing. After playing 36 holes the ‘Cats stood at 586, 20 strokes behind winner Monterey Bay and seven shots behind host Dominican after posting matching rounds of 293.

Chico State was led by a fourth-place finish from junior Alistair Docherty, who shot 72 in his morning round, followed by a 71 in the afternoon to leave him four strokes behind first place finisher Anton Rosen who shot both round under par and finish at.

Fellow junior Lee Gearhart also turned in a top-10 performance, shooting 73, 72 to finish at one-over-par 145 and tied for eighth. Teammate Ryan Roodzant also improved on his morning score, going 75, 74 to finish at five-over-par 149, good for a T13 finish.

Zachary Sardina failed to improve on his opening round 73, posting a six-over 78 in the afternoon to drop into 16th place at 151. Justin Wiles shot back-to-back 76’s to finish at 152 alone in 17th place.

Freshman David Na, competing as an individual shot a 73,75 to finish at four-over good for 12th place. Colby Dean also competed as an individual tied for 19th after firing 76,80 for a score of 148.

The tournament marked the second time Cal State Monterey Bay has beat the Wildcats head to head. The team is now off until the Coyote Classic at Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino on Feb. 23-24, 2015.
