Fallen tree ruptures pipeline

High winds brought down a large tree around 12 p.m Monday.

The tree blocked the roadway on East First Avenue near Oleander Avenue and caused a rupture in the water pipeline resulting in minor flooding.

“Safety first and then we will restore service,” said assistant district manager for California Water Service, Rosanna Marino. “We have probably about 12 to 20 houses out of service right now.”

Cal Water crews worked to fix the pipe and restore water to residents in the surrounding area. Construction crews blocked off the sidewalk as well to prevent injury from fallen power lines. It is estimated that the tree will be fully removed later this evening.

Cal Water crews will provide bottled water to residents in the surrounding area if needed. There were no injuries reported.
