On May 17, over 130 countries around the world celebrate the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

This event was created in 2004 with the main purpose of drawing attention to violence and discrimination of the LGBTI community.

The date was chosen to commemorate the May 17, 1990 decision by the World Health Organization to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.

“Chico State Pride does not do an event for this particular day because of the time of year,” says Brina Coverrubias, the program coordinator for Chico State Pride. “However we do a transphobia day during our membership meetings during the year.”

“I think this is a wonderful event. I’m just disappointed that I was not able to participate in it as a member of the LGBTQ community,” says April Beckett, first-year forensic anthropology major. “I hope that next year there can be more advertising.”

The original name for the day was the “International Day against Homophobia,” or I.DA.HO. It is now simply referred to as “May 17th.”

Does it make any sense for people to be ‘born gay’?

If the “born gay” thesis is an absurd idea, then any scientific/pseudoscientific counter assertions are exposed as equally absurd.

Gay activists refuse to debate this issue because they know they cannot win.

Research studies on homosexuality by Dr’s Dean Hamer, Michael Bailey, Richard Dillard, Simon Levay. Laura Allen and Roger Gorski have failed to show proof of a gay gene. There is no scientific evidence that shows that homosexuality is genetic.

The media has sensationalized and perpetuated the myth of a homosexual gene.
