The south campus area will be closed and without electrical
power on Saturday to accommodate flood repairs in Langdon Hall, according to a
campus-wide email.
Buildings like Ayres Hall and the Bell Memorial Union will be inaccessible to students, staff and faculty from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. If required, the south campus may also be closed Sunday, according to the email.
The flood occurred in the basement of Langdon Hall Monday, where a transformer was housed and connected to the south campus electrical line, said Joe Wills, a spokesman for Chico State.
It was discovered that a water valve was left open after contracted workers were testing sprinklers across the campus, Wills said.
Now that the basement has been dried, Belfor, a restoration firm, will be testing electrical and mechanical equipment for damages, Wills said.
No total cost of repairs has been released.
Elevators in the south campus will be shut down starting Friday at 6 p.m..
Currently, the parking structure on Second Avenue and Ivy Street is closed and without power. Elevators in parking structure II on Normal Avenue will be open until 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
The outages will not affect Wildcat basketball games in the Acker Gym, according to the email.
Maintenance is hoping to have Langdon up and running by next week before school starts, Wills said.
