An online fundraiser in support of Bryant Mata-Adams’ mother has raised more than $10,000 in less than two days.
Mata-Adams, a 19-year-old Chico State student, died Monday after a suspected DUI crash Sunday killed one other passenger, Austin Silver, 20, and left driver Diego Arriaga-Rodriguez, 18, in critical condition.
The fundraiser’s goal is to support Lisa Mata, Mata-Adams mother through funding funeral and medical expenses, according to its website.
“It is our hope that her family, friends and this community will now rise up around her to show their support and love during this difficult time,” according to the website. “The last thing we would want Lisa to worry about is taking the full burden of the funeral costs or figuring out how to pay rent.”
As of 11 a.m. Wednesday, $10,340 have been raised from 167 supporters, passing the fundraisers goal of $10,000.
In just 5 hours, the fundraisers original goal of $5,000 was met, according to the website.
As of Wednesday, 31 days remain on the fundraiser. The site’s organizers, Meaghan Yaple and Manda Sayegh, are still requesting donations.
“Lisa would never ask for this help, therefore we are asking for her,” according to the website. “No amount is too small and every little bit helps.”
