J Patrick Smith, John Brunk and Theordore Elsenbaumer are at it again.

The trio of decathletes qualified for the NCAA Championship Friday by reaching the 7,000 point mark at the Chico Multi-Classic at University Stadium.

All three had personal records in discus, while Brunk earned a personal record in the 110-meter hurdles and pole vault.

On the women’s side of things, Kristen Brunk and Aryana Mires finished first and second in the Heptathlon “B” group, while Kylie Herman and Brooke Whitburn both finished in the top five in the Heptathlon “A” competition.

Brunk scored 3,824 points, and finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.46, second in the javelin throw with 84-feet-10 and third in the long jump at 15-feet-03.

Mires won the Group “B” long jump, while Whitburn took first in the Group “A” long jump. Herman and Whitburn finished neck and neck with Herman coming in with 4,115 point for fourth place and Whitburn scoring 4,056 points for fifth place.

The Wildcats will compete Saturday in Turlock for the Kim Duyst Invitational.
