The Wildcats softball team laid an egg in the first game losing 4-0 but got its revenge in the second game winning 5-0.

Pitching was a struggle in game one as starting pitcher Alex Molina threw 3.2 innings, gave up three earned runs and four hits, while only striking out two.

San Bernardino got on the board early with a RBI single up the middle that scored in two runs. The Coyotes later scored again in the fourth on a gapper to the outfield.

Chico was forced to switch pitchers in the fourth inning after trailing 5-0. Cheyenne Sandoval came in and pitched the rest of the way. Sandoval gave up two hits and struck out four.

The second game Chico State bounced back behind a complete game by starter Brooke Langeloh, who struck out five.

“I was able to keep the ball down,” Langeloh said. “I go out there and focus on my job and there’s no real pressure because I trust my defense and our hitting.”

The offense came alive for the WIldcats as it took a 1-0 lead in the first inning from a double by Emily McEnaney. Chico State tacked on two more runs on a fielder’s choice and on a single.

Chico last run of the game came on a whopper of a hit by McEnaney that sailed over the center field fence.

“I knew what she was throwing,” McEnaney said.”She was in a pattern with me and her velocity wasn’t overpowering us.”

The Wildcats were regularly scheduled to play San Bernardino on Saturday but because of weather that game has been moved to Sunday,

“We kind of wish we were playing tomorrow just because the game break could be good or bad,” McEnaney said.”Hopefully everybody takes that day to rest and we finish out the series on Sunday.”
