In what turned out to be a defensive match-up, neither team was able to score a goal in the first half of the game. The first-and-only goal of the match came in the last 15 minutes of the second half, when Dominguez Hills’ Joey Chica capitalized from an assist by Pedro Velasquez and Daniel Herrera.
Senior midfielders Justin Saul and Akwafei Ajeakwa, along with junior Matt Hurlow, were among six players in the game who received yellow cards.
Freshman goalie Luke Dennison, who had only given up two goals before Friday night, also received a yellow card during the contest.
Coming into game, the Wildcats were riding a four-game winning streak, where they were able to shut out three of their four previous opponents.
After Friday night’s setback, Chico State drops to 0-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play, with a 5-1-1 overall record.
Chico State will look to bounce back on Sunday morning and start a new streak, when it faces Cal-State Los Angeles on its fourth road game of the season.
