Chico State holds top spot in conference

The Chico State men’s basketball team sealed their fifth win at home by beating UC San Diego on Friday, with a final score of 72-64.

The Tritons who were number two in the conference standings gave the Cats’ competition to defend their spot.

The first half started with an immediate foul by the Tritons. Senior center Jordan Barton made both free throws to give the ‘Cats the lead early in the game.

Cats’ entered the second half with a 37-24 lead.

The Triton’s were able to come back in the last five minutes of the game taking the lead with a 55-54 score. Their lead came to an end after junior forward Tanner Giddings made consecutive shots to give the lead back to Chico State.

CCAA player of the week, sophomore guard Robert Duncan, sealed the game in the second half when two Tritons collided to the ground giving him an open shot.

With the win, Chico State maintained its position in the top spot of the conference.

The ‘Cats takes on Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night to try and defend their winning streak at home.
