The Chico State softball team came with their bats ready as they took both games of a double header against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros, winning 7-1, and 10-6 respectively.

Game 1

The Toros opened up the scoring in the second inning on a solo home run to make it 1-0.

The Wildcats had a couple rallies, but could not get on the scoreboard until the 5th inning. In the fifth, senior infielder Emily McEnaney singled in junior utility player Ashley Huff to tie the game up at one.

The game remained tied until the last inning when the ‘Cats exploded for six runs.

Junior first basemen Desiree’ Gonzalez did the most damage in the inning, hitting a three run home run that put her in the record books. Gonzalez’s home run made her the all time leader in Chico State history.

First year pitcher Haley Gilham got the win, improving her record to 13-8. Gilham went all seven innings, allowing seven hits, 1 run, no walks, and striking out six.

Game 2

The ‘Cats got some runs early, with Gonzalez hitting a double and two bases loaded walks, the team got a quick 3-0 lead.

In the second, sophomore Tori Zimmerman grounded to second to score Huff.

The Toros would answer back, and come within one on a two run home run in the second inning.

In the third, another bases loaded walk and a 2 RBI single by Zimmerman gave the ‘Cats a 7-3 lead.

Cal State Dominguez Hills would score three in the fifth to cut the lead to just 7-6.

The Wildcars would seal the deal scoring two in the sixth, and one in the seventh.

Junior pitcher Brooke Langleoh would get the win, pitching four innings, allowing four hits, five runs, four walks, and striking out three.
