Haley Gilham led the way for Wildcats softball this afternoon against San Marcos, as the Wildcats remain unbeaten winning game one 4-0, and following that with a 7-1 victory.

Gilham started game one Saturday and pitched her fifth complete game shutout on the season, her second in two days.

“I was just going with it. (You) Just got to trust the process, trust in my drop and my screw,” Gilham said. “The screw was working well today, so we went with it and it got the job done.”

Gilham’s catcher, Claire Wayne, knew it would be a good day for Gilham.

“She was really hitting her spots, her ball was moving and she was really hitting her spots.” Wayne said. “She told me she was feeling good this morning, I was glad to see her hit her spots.”

Wayne finished with three walks and two hits, one in each game.

Gilham finished her shutout with 11 strikeouts, a season high for the second day in a row.

“I feel like today we just came out, our bats didn’t show for the last few innings,” Gilham said. “You got to hit to score and score to win and we did that today.”

The Wildcats had to come back from a one run deficit to win game two by a score of 7-1. Their offense was highlighted by a six-run fourth inning, which was finished by a 3-run home run by second baseman Karli Skowrup.

The Wildcats continue home play Friday Cal State East Bay in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
