Man arrested in connection with previous shooting in Chico

A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred last fall in Chico.

According to a press release from the Chico Police Department, witnesses say the shooting occurred after a fight broke out at a party on September 23, 2017, at 600 West 7th Street. The party ended following the altercation and most people attending left the area.

A short time later, the victim and a few other people were standing on a porch outside the residence where the party occurred when the suspect started shooting at them. The victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the upper body and was transferred to Enloe Hospital.

Following a lengthy investigation, detectives discovered evidence that linked 18-year-old Christopher Williams to the crime. The Chico Police Department Detective Bureau obtained an arrest warrant for Williams on Wednesday.

Williams, who is from Stockton and was in Chico visiting friends at the time of the shooting, was contacted and arrested by the Stockton Police Department a few hours after the warrant was entered into the system.

Williams is also facing charges out of Stockton and will remain in custody at the San Joaquin County Jail for the time being. Once he faces those charges, arrangements will be made to transport him to Butte County Jail.
