Transient wanted by police for suspected child battery

Transient wanted by police for suspected child battery

Police are actively investigating a report that a transient grabbed a local boy by the arm Tuesday morning.

According to a press release from the Chico Police Department, the incident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Laurel Street when a mother was walking her elementary-aged son to school.

According to witnesses, a dark-skinned male transient wearing dark clothing and appearing to be about 30 years old approached the mother and son and grabbed the son by the arm.

The mother began crying out for help, which prompted neighbors to come to the scene from their residences. The transient managed to flee the scene before he could be apprehended.

Police still have limited information about the incident at this time, and anyone that can provide additional details is encouraged to contact the Chico Police Department at (530) 897-4911.
