A 20-year-old female died after being struck by a drunk driver on Nord Avenue Dec. 7, according to the Chico Police Department.

The driver, Bryan Dawson, was a resident of Chico who was driving under the influence, according to a press release. The woman’s friends said the car drove up onto the sidewalk, hit the victim and drove away. The woman was unresponsive when officers and medical personnel arrived and efforts to save her life were unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

A few hours later, Dawson contacted Chico Police to report he was part of a collision. Police responded and found the description of the car who had hit the woman matched that of Dawson’s vehicle. Chico Police investigated the man further, conducting a few sobriety tests before arresting him.
