Homeless man arrested, charged with car burglary

Homeless man arrested, charged with car burglary

The Chico Police Department confirmed that they arrested a homeless man on Monday morning following a car burglary.

Officers were first dispatched to Forest Glen Apartments on Pillsbury Road at 6 a.m. Monday after receiving a call about the incident. The initial report was that the suspect had broken the side window of a Ford sedan and rummaged through the car before stealing items and fleeing the scene.

Officers searched the area and located a man matching the description of the suspect, who was then identified by a witness. After conducting a search, officers found the stolen items from the car on the suspect’s person and in his backpack.

The man was identified as 26-year-old Brian Burt.

Burt is currently booked into Butte County Jail on suspected charges of burglary and drug paraphernalia.
