Community Service Officer interviews begin, promises law enforcement experience

Community Service Officer interviews begin, promises law enforcement experience

University Police conducted interviews Monday for prospective students looking for law enforcement training.

Most years, the university police look to hire new Community Service Officers, usually to replace those that have graduated and moved on. This year the program is also hoping to expand, according to Sergeant Bryce Davison.

Community Service Officers serve a host of duties around campus. Davison mentioned driving the Campus Connection Bus around campus from 6 p.m. to midnight, offering students who didn’t feel safe rides around campus, as well as assisting in police dispatch and typical duties like locking doors, parking enforcement, and more.

“We’re hiring a total of five new CSOs,” Davison said. “There are quite a few more (interviews) to go, but we’re hoping to be done in a week-and-a-half or so.”

He added that the positions will remain open until filled, so any students interested in getting law enforcement experience, or looking at a career in the field should pick up an application. He said the department hopes to start training during the summer so new officers will be ready for the start of next fall semester.

More information and a link to the application can be found online through the Community Service Officer page on the campus website. Applications can also be found at the University Police Department.
